On Friday, 30 April, former Liberal parliamentarian Hans van Baalen died of cancer. In 2004, Hans van Baalen, together with Frans Timmermans, submitted questions to the Cabinet about the treatment of Polish paratroopers in the years following the Second World War. It was one of the many actions that eventually contributed to the restoration of honour of the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade and their general Sosabowski.  For his efforts, Hans van Baalen, together with Frans Timmermans, was decorated by the Polish President on 12 December 2006 as Officer in the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

 Hans van Baalen leaves behind a wife and son. As a board, we wish them and their families much strength.
